Online dictionary of the Hutsul dialect in the context of Ukrainian digital lexicography

Background. This article examines the development of modern Ukrainian lexicography in the context of the rapid digitalisation of academic research. It focuses on the challenges and prospects of electronic dialect lexicography. The influence of digital technologies on the transformation of traditional approaches to compiling dialect dictionaries is analysed, particularly with regard to the principles of selection, organisation and representation of lexical material. The role of electronic dictionaries as effective tools for the collection, systematisation and interpretation of linguistic data is outlined. Particular attention is paid to the current state of Ukrainian dialect lexicography, especially the insufficient development of electronic dialect dictionaries and the limited availability of dialect material in digital form. The article reviews existing electronic resources, projects and initiatives aimed at preserving, processing and popularising dialect vocabulary, and emphasises their importance for the creation of a comprehensive electronic database of dialect data.
Methods. General scientific and specialised linguistic research methods were employed, in particular the descriptive method – to outline the characteristics of the development of modern dialectal lexicography and the creation of electronic dictionaries; the modelling method – to develop a concept for an electronic dictionary of the Hutsul dialect; the generalisation method – to formulate conclusions regarding the prospects for the development of electronic dialectal lexicography.
Results. The paper substantiates the need to create an electronic dictionary of the Hutsul dialect as a comprehensive lexicographic resource that combines traditional principles of lexicography with innovative digital technologies. It describes the conceptual foundations of the project, including the principles of compiling the register, the structure of dictionary entries, possibilities for multimedia support, integration with corpus and linguistic-geographical data, and multilevel information retrieval. The importance of a text-based approach and the standardisation of lexicographic parameters is emphasised.
Conclusions. The study concludes that electronic dialect lexicography is a promising area of modern linguistics. It contributes to the preservation of linguistic and cultural heritage, provides new opportunities for the analysis and representation of dialect material, and lays the groundwork for the compilation of a comprehensive dictionary of Ukrainian dialects.
