Authorship and Co-authorship

The policy of the journal “Ukrainian Linguistics” on authorship and co-authorship is based on the rules and recommendations of COPE.

One of the prerequisites for acceptance of an article with several authors for publication is to present the contribution of each of them to the research. The contribution of the authors should be indicated as a separate item in the article (see: Article’s post-text materials, 2. In Author Guidelines).

According to CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), information about the authors’ contribution to the preparation of an article should be presented in accordance with the following criteria:

  • Conceptualization. Ideas; the formulation or evolution of overarching research goals and objectives.
  • Formal analysis. The use of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other formal methods to analyze or synthesize empirical research data.
  • Software. Programming, software development; design of computer programs; implementation of computer code and auxiliary algorithms; testing of code components.
  • Methodology. Developing or designing a methodology; creating models.
  • Data validation. Checking the reproducibility of results/experiments and other research results.
  • Writing (original draft). Writing the initial version (draft) of the article.
  • Writing (reviewing and editing). Making significant changes and additions to the article.

Persons who participated in the study but do not meet these criteria cannot be considered co-authors. Research participants who provided advice, research space, financial support, etc. should be referred to as “Participants” or “Consultants”.

It is not allowed to change the authors after submitting the article to the editorial board.

The procedure for placing authors in a publication should be based on a joint decision of the co-authors in accordance with the significance of each author’s contribution.

In determining the contribution of authors, the editors rely entirely on the responsibility of co-authors.
